Heavy-Duty and Seismic Hardware

Prior to the early 2000s, Cooper B-Line produced heavy-duty hardware that was widely specified in industrial plants and infrastructure primarily for their displayed structural strength, material thickness, and durability. As U.S. building codes evolved, most notably with the introduction of the International Building Code (IBC) in 2000 and its subsequent updates, requirements for mechanical and electrical support systems became more explicit.

By the mid-2000s, engineers and authorities required quantified seismic load ratings, regulated bracing configurations, and third-party validation to demonstrate compliance with IBC and NFPA 13 provisions. To fit these demands, Eaton integrated the specialized TOLCO™ brand, transitioning Cooper B-Line’s hardware with general “heavy-duty” labeling to explicitly certified seismic solutions.
